Kingston Digital SSDNow V+100 96 GB Solid-State Drive SVP100S2/96G
Review by Marcelo Sales : Good upgrade disk
This ssd was purchased for a upgrade on my old 5 years P5B wi-fi with a core 2 duo. Despite the age of the machine, this disk gave me a "brand new" system. With a win 7 home premium, i can postpone the buying of a new system. Sorry apple, the new 27 pol imac will have to wait for at least 2 years more. If you want a responsive system, this kind of disk is a must have.

Review by Amazon Addict : Excellent Choice for a MacBook Pro
I have an Early-2008 MacBook Pro that was beginning to show its age. Apps would take a while to open, and I would get frequent "beachballing" when switching tabs in Safari or Word. I was debating if it was time for a new machine, but since the price after rebate was so low, I figured I'd give it a shot and see if I could extend the life of my machine for a while. After much research, I figured this was the optimal drive for a Mac based on its SATA 2 connection, and integrated garbage collection (as most Macs don't support TRIM on third-party SSDs).
Installation was tough (lots of screws and delicate ribbon cables), but that's an Apple issue, not a problem with this drive. I had to get rid of a lot of junk on the HDD before all my stuff would fit on the smaller SSD, but I probably should have gotten rid of that stuff a long time ago anyway. I used SuperDuper to duplicate the installed HDD to the SSD (attached via USB enclosure that came with the bundle version of this SSD), and then followed the installation instructions that are available on youtube. Booted up, and viola, I was ready to go.
I've never used an SSD before and I gotta say I was totally blown away by the speed difference. Apps open almost instantly (even big apps like Word or Photoshop), and iPhoto flies. Battery life seems significantly extended as well. Now my iMac seems slow! I definitely recommend getting an SSD if you don't need tons of storage space (or if you can exile your big files to an external disk), and this one works great in my Mac.
Kingston Digital SSDNow V+100 96 GB Solid-State Drive SVP100S2/96G
Review by Scooterdog : Awesome drive - amazing bang for the buck!
I do not know why this product rates so low (but it is only two ratings for what that's worth). I have been waiting to upgrade an aging Dell Dimension desktop machine (circa 2006), and over the past few months upgraded the processor (nice boost there), larger hard drives (1T but only 5400 rpm), memory (3Gb). Windows 7 (installed about 18 months ago) was a big step up in speed (and the faster processor really helped), but going from a 1Tb, 5400rpm system drive to this SSD has been nothing short of awesome.
SSD drives started at $5-6 per Gb, now for less than $2/Gb (and with a rebate - now expired but keep your eye out for another one - close to $1/Gb) this 96Gb unit fits the bill nicely. Plenty of room for the Win7 OS and all the program files I currently have (my current system measures something like 60Gb) in addition to future programs, and wicked-fast speeds.
This has been - hands-down - the best improvement / upgrade my system has seen. Of course these units will continue to drift down in price, and according to all the reviews there are faster units out there, but for the 'bang for the buck' factor you can't go wrong.
With an older motherboard (as I mentioned 2006) there was no provision for ACHI mode in the BIOS, so I'll have to dig around to figure out whether the TRIM function can be enabled through Win7. (MS Knowledge Base 922976 apparently will enable this SATA driver, but I have yet to see that error message indicated).
The instructions that came with the system was surprisingly short (hardly any use to it) but I just plugged it in, entered the BIOS and saw that the drive was immediately recognized. (Make sure to unplug your existing boot drive for installation of Windows to the SSD.) Pop in your Win7 install disk to the optical drive, set the optical drive to boot first in the boot order, and away you go. (Note: be sure to partition using Windows 7 using the 'New' button when you see the list of disks come up on where to install Windows to, it will create a Win7 partition (100Mb) to reserve for system use and then the remainder (on the order of 89Gb) for the install.)
If you are on the fence about upgrading older systems, it is amazing how much a difference an SSD makes. I shut down my computer much more often knowing that booting up only is a 10 second operation, and starting programs is also amazingly quick. You won't regret it!

Review by ChrisWirz : Not a game changer
I previously was utilizing a 2TB Segate 7200rpm "platter" hard drive with two, 1TB partitions. One partition was for the operating system and the other partition was for data. I transitioned to the Kingston 96GB SDD for the operating system. Speed (maybe 3x faster in some cases) and stability was improved for the OS, but video playback had noticeable dropped frames. Applications were more responsive, but installing them took longer than before the upgrade. Overall, I would say this is not a game changer, but the improved boot time will encourage you to shut down your computer more often, thus saving power. Final thought, I would not recommend this drive for data, but for an OS and high use applications, it is worth your while.
