Sony BRAVIA DAV-DZ170 Home Theater System
Review by Keith : Good budget system
Hooked up to DirecTV STB with optical audio cable so the stereo is getting Dolby Digital sound. Vocals are strong and crisp. Treble could be a little better. Midrange is ok. Bass is good but I have the sub turned up 1 notch below max. There are no HDMI inputs so you have to hook up your other video sources directly to the TV. It has 2 digital audio inputs (1 optical, 1 coaxial) so make sure that will be enough for your needs. Overall, good budget system.

Review by teedi : The Sony Bravia Home Theater System is outstanding!
I would recommend this product to anyone because this system has a very clear, sharp, and crisp sound which you may not receive in some of the more expensive theater systems. If you are looking for a system with a nice bargain and a great sound, this is definitely the one you may be looking for. This system has no distortion playing the dvd player and the subwoofer will literally blow you out of the room whether you are sitting or standing! Every sound and instrument is heard through this one, depending on your personal settings. You are getting more than what you are paying for and it has an outlet for an ipod or mp3 player.

Review by S. Scavo : Great Sound, Cheap Price
Easy to set up and gives great sound! It's a bit cumbersome to adjust which surround sound settings you want to use, but that has to be due to the low price. Very Happy with this product!

Review by C. Perry : Really Nice Setup With Really Nice Price
Sony's Bravia line has yet to disappoint me. This home theater in a box is a really nice setup. It doesn't have the flexibility of a high-end receiver like a Denon or Onkyo, but that's not really what a home theater in a box setup is supposed to do. It has one HDMI output, but no HDMI inputs, and only one optical input. If you've got a newer model tv, that's all you need most of the time. If you can run all of your HDMI sources into your tv, you can just run the one optical cable to this receiver and you're ready to go. It's plenty powerful for most living rooms and gets loud without losing much resolution. The subwoofer the weakest aspect of this set, but it's not that bad. You can turn it up in the settings if you want a little more bottom end. I take it back, the weakest aspect of this set is the proprietary input system for the speaker wires. Sony isn't the only company to do this, so it's hard to single them out here, but it's still annoying. I prefer to use lower gauge speaker wires, but the proprietary speaker plugs make that almost impossible.
Overall, I prefer this setup to most component systems because A) it doesn't take up much space B) it reproduces sounds evenly and accurately C) the DVD upconversion is pretty good and D) the price is very nice. I down-sized from a 7.1 component setup and don't regret it for a second.

Review by brian jackson : decent price. decent product.
I like the upscaling ability from normal dvd 480i to 1080p. but you have to use the hdmi. it doesent give you much of an option to fine tune the sound. it has presets. and they are not of the best quality. the system sounds ok. but it has an echoing effect if i turn my tv volume up. i guess i should have just bought a sony t.v. well everybody is'nt able, sony. and my tv volume shouldnt come out the tv before the sound comes out the surround sound. you can only sync the sound when you are playing dvd's on this system. it has deep rich bass. but the rear speaker volume cant be adjusted separately from the front. matter of fact you cant individually change the volume on any channel like i can do on my cheap surround system from walmart($40). its a decent piece. but you get what you get when you only pay $200 for a sony surround sound system. do your homework. or try to save up a little more cash and get something better.

Review by 68firebird : Good Sound, Easy Installation
I replaced a 10 year old unit with this new one. For the price, the sound is great. The installlation was super easy, just plug eveything in, connect the microphone, and it balances the speakers automatically.
